Have you started a blog but don’t know how to monetize it? There’s a tactic that helps you start making money right away even if you don’t have too many visitors on your blog yet.
This secret tactic is affiliate marketing. By definition, this means promoting someone else’s products or service through a unique link and making a commission every time someone buys it. Usually, you could easily start making money with affiliate marketing even if your blog is small. I was making $500/ month as a new blogger with only 100 visitors per day. And you can too!
The best part is that it is beginner friendly, and all you have to know will be shared in this step by step guide for affiliate marketing blogger’s edition.
Step one on making money blogging with affiliate marketing
Make sure to have a clear niche for your blog. This blog, for example, is about how to start a business and make money online, with an additional niche about self development. You should focus on niching down as much as possible. Instead of having a very broad subject for your blog, use that one to find a sub-niche for it and to capitalize on it as much as possible. This way you can be more specific in finding the right target audience, you’ll know better how to copywrite the right way and it will also be easier for you to rank on Google if your SEO is done the right way.
Yours could be about frugal living, the mom life or it could be a fashion and beauty blog. Taking the fashion and beauty example, niching down would be mean to specialize in vegan and cruelty free products. This way you’ll know exactly how to attract your ideal visitor because you already know their main interest.
You can’t build an audience if you don’t specialize in a niche. In order to have success in any business, you first must know who is your target audience.
How to define your ideal client:
Ask yourself the next questions: Who is this product for? sex, gender, age, geographical segmentation, occupation. What are the main motivations and principles of your ideal customer? Do they want to be more productive? Do they want to be perceived as more successful? Do they want to build financial freedom?
Once you found your ideal client, you must create content for them specifically. You should also express yourself in the right way if you want to attract them.
Name at least three specific attributes of your ideal customer. Motivated, self-aware, intelligent, success-
Name at least three vulnerabilities. Cares what others think about them, thinks they are always right, pride.
- purchase behaviour – the process they go through before buying a product
- what problem they want to solve by buying a product?
- define their lifestyle and how your product will be a part of it
- visual or auditory – what gets their attention when seeing your offer?
- emotional triggers – find these by knowing their problem their vulnerabilities
- name their values, attributes, vulnerabilities, passions
Step two on making money blogging with affiliate marketing
After you chose a great niche and have defined your target audience, it’s time to pick your affiliate products to promote. One of the easiest platforms to start on is Clickbank. They have great products in a lot of niches and it’s easy to find out which ones are best sellers.
To do this you’ll have to create an account and then click on ”Marketplace”. Then, go to the search bar and click on the search icon without typing anything in. The list that will appear shows you the top-selling products from the platform.
Another plus when it comes to Clickbank is that the sellers offer resources such as made for your articles, ads, or even emails so you won’t have to stress over your copywriting skills. Last but not least, some of them even offer extra information such as the main audience, including age, gender, location, and interests. All this information is incredibly useful for you because you can use it to further even more your content.
The second platform I suggest you use is Amazon Associates. It doesn’t matter what niche you’re in, you will most probably find related products for it on Amazon. You’ll need high traffic for this to work because Amazon isn’t paying that much but you can still make great extra money by using it. The great thing about this affiliate program is that you’ll get e percent from the total order of the client, even if they only clicked for a notebook on your blog. For example, if they clicked on your affiliate link for a notebook but they also purchased a laptop in those 24 hours, you’ll also get money for the laptop, simply because you got that person on their website. The downside of this program is that the cookie length is of 24 hours, while other programs have up to 3 months.
Gumroad is another great place to find affiliate products to promote, and you can do that even if you don’t buy the product. There are some sellers that require you buy it before promoting it though. But if you don’t have money to invest right now, then you’ll have to settle for the first option.
The upside of buying the product first is that you can write a review for it which means you might raise your chances of getting conversions since you are offering your opinion on it and your experience.
The last platform I will get into detail about is VigLink, which lets you monetize your blog articles without you having to add affiliate links on each. When you add normal links in your blog posts, VigLink finds the affiliate product for it on their platform and monetizes it. It’s a revolutionary tactic in affiliate marketing and we expect more platforms to follow this format.
Other affiliate marketing platforms you should check out:
hosting companies such as Bluehost, GoDaddy, HostGator, CloudWays
email subscription services: GetResponse, ConstantContact, MailChimp
Step three on making money blogging with affiliate marketing
The third step is knowing where to add your affiliate links. Since you are a blogger, your main form of content is the article. The best two ways to promote affiliate links are writing reviews for those products and lists.
Compiling a list of 5 or ten best products on a certain subject will always help you make more sales because you are offering more options and everyone is free to choose.
Other than that, you should add the Amazon Associates affiliate links wherever you feel fit. For example, if your article is about productivity, you can add notebooks, pens, planners, and even desks and laptops.
If you wrote a recipe, you should search a few options for each ingredient and add them to your article. You can do this by logging into your account and then click on Product Linking – Native Shopping Ads – Custom Ads – Create Custom Ads. There you’ll be able to create an HTML link for your blog and place it wherever you’d like.
