Pinterest has been a gold mine for business owners for a few years now. With the help of Tik Tok, Pinterest caught more traction as a tool for Instagram marketing. You can find hundreds of videos all about how you can grow your Instagram following by sharing your pictures on Pinterest and using the right keywords. If you want to learn more about how to bring traffic to your business with Pinterest, we have a detailed step by step guide HERE.
What many people don’t know is that you can also find your next product idea on it. I figured this a while ago while I was conducting keyword research. If you know anything about how SEO research works on Pinterest, then you’ll know that the platform shows you exactly what people are searching for in your niche.
What is Pinterest?
Just in case you’ve never heard of this platform before, Pinterest is an image-sharing social media service and a search engine. As of 2020, the platform had 460 monthly active users.
How Pinterest keyword research works
Let’s say you have a business about how to live a healthy lifestyle. The first thing you have to do is go to Pinterest and type your main keyword in the search bar. As you can see in the picture below, Pinterest suggested a few related keywords. The secret is that those keywords are exactly what people are searching for on the platform about your niche.
To create a successful Pinterest marketing plan, you should click on each suggested keyword and see the further results. Then, you should create a list with all those words and add them to your name, description, board name and descriptions, pin title and descriptions. This way, the right people will find your pins and click on them.
How to use Pinterest to find your next product
Using our earlier example of owning a business in the health niche, you could sell services such as one on one nutrition coaching, sell courses about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, sell e-books, checklists, or printables and the list goes on.
For example, if your goal is to sell an e-book next, then Pinterest can show you exactly what are the needs of your target. If you go back to the screenshot above, you’ll find the keywords “to lose weight” and “on a budget”. Easily, your next e-book could be “How to lose weight on a budget – a step by step plan”.
Another keyword you can find there is “grocery list”. If you click on it, you’ll find other suggestions such as “meal planning”, “for two”, “recipes” and “printable”. Your next product could be named “Healthy eating grocery list for two with recipe examples”, and it would be a printable. These sell extremely well and are a low-ticket product which means more people will be willing to spend money on them. They usually sell for around $10.
How to promote your product on Pinterest
If you decided to write an e-book but don’t know where to start, we have a step-by-step guide for you HERE. Since your product idea came from doing Pinterest keyword research, it means that we also know your target audience is on this platform. Your next step would be to recreate your keyword research with the main topics of your product and see what you find. You should also keep the keywords that gave you the product idea. Once you have a good list of keywords, it’s time to create your pins and write your descriptions. We have a step by step plan HERE for Pinterest marketing that will teach you everything you need to know.
Why you should be on Pinterest
Not only that you should use Pinterest to find your next product idea, but you should also be active daily on it and promote your content. While on Instagram, for example, you’ll have to pay thousands to reach your target (especially with the new algorithm), with Pinterest you can do that for free.
Your focus should be on learning Pinterest marketing, along with SEO keyword research. Pinterest itself suggests you post around 20 to 30 fresh pins per day. In the past repining and reposting was allowed but now it can do more harm than good. For this reason, aim to create new pins daily for your articles and products, and post them.
